An ingredient in cosmetics - IAA and its derivatives are used extensively as a UV absorber in some cosmetic formulations, and the product itself finds application as a cosmetic flavouring and in perfume. In other industries IAA is also used as a solvent in the manufacture of photographic and pharmaceutical chemicals. It is used as a Synthetic flavor, intermediate in preparation of pharmaceuticals.

beta-damascenone is an active ingredient and major contributor to the aroma of roses, despite its very low concentration, and is an important natural fragrance chemical used in perfumery.
